Can I still operate my gas fireplace in a power outage? As long as your gas fireplace has a standing pilot ignition system, it will still operate during a power outage. (Some electronic ignition fireplaces have battery backups which allow you to start the fireplace during a power outage). Since the fan requires 110VAC to function, it will not be operable in an outage. NOTE: If you have a remote control on your fireplace, you most likely will need to turn your fireplace on manually during a power outage unless the remote has a receiver that takes batteries. This is done by locating the ON/OFF rocker switch located behind the lower grille of your fireplace, and turning it to the ON position.
Can I rearrange the logs in my gas fireplace? We recommend not moving the logs. Placement of the logs is critical to the operation and performance of the fireplace. Misplaced logs can result in operational problems which could cause soot issues. Logs are designed by the manufacturer to go with the type of burner that is provided with your model of fireplace and typically can not be replaced with different logs.
Why do I have blue flames? This is a result of normal operation and the flames will begin to yellow as the appliance heats up and is allowed to burn.
Why is there film or condensation on the glass of my gas fireplace?
The condensation is usually on fireplaces with no standing pilot. So cold start Electronic ignition fireplaces will typically start out with condensation but will usually go away within the first 10 minutes of operation. The white haze or film is caused by carbon that is a byproduct of gas being burned and it will stick to the glass and will etch over time and may not be removable with any cleaners if it has burned past the protective coating of the glass. If glass wont come clean during the service visit then replacement or keeping it is the only options.
Is it okay to burn wood or other materials inside my gas fireplace?
NO, It is never ok to burn anything inside your gas fireplace.
Can I shut off my pilot in the Summer? Yes, you can shut off your pilot for the summer but most customers choose to keep it running due to ease of not having to relight it for the winter.
Can I regulate the heat output from a gas fireplace to maintain a comfortable room temperature? Yes, many gas fireplaces are designed to operate with a thermostat control. Homeowners can set the desired room temperature using a thermostat and the fireplace will automatically turn on or off according to the desired temperature. If your fireplace doesn't have this option then usually there is a remote with a built in thermostat function that will regulate room temperature.
Why do my logs never burn and what are they made of? Most logs in gas fireplaces are made up of ceramic fiber which will allow them to be exposed to direct flame without damage or burning up.
